Third Calling: What are you doing the rest of your life? is a message to every person in our generation.
We, the authors, are Boomers. Born in the 1950’s, we belong to a great generation recognized for its size, strength and attitude. Historically known for being counter-cultural, we have challenged society’s expectations for how we act, believe, vote, and now, how we will age. Standing on the threshold of a new season of life we, as individuals within a generation, can consider the opportunities, confront the prevalent assumptions and embrace a fresh calling and purpose.
Throughout the book, we establish the case that each one of us is uniquely created and designed for a purpose–for such a time as this. We have rich and diverse life experiences. We care deeply about a broad scope of issues, causes and people. We are here, at this place and time, for a reason. Never before has a generation had such an opportunity to redefine this time of life. We have the responsibility to steward it well.
We define stages in life as: First Calling–the challenges of young adulthood; Second Calling–the responsibilities of midlife; and Third Calling–the opportunities of maturity. It’s a new stage, a blank canvas we can fill with color, action and story. It is time to engage in our Third Calling.
Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great.
You can be that great generation.
